Best drink/kadha to boost immunity during Covid-19

Entire mankind across the globe has been facing an unprecedented crisis of Coronavirus (COVID-19) for more than a year now. Although now many vaccine are available but still many people are not able to get it. So in this condition maintaining proper hygiene, following social distancing and boosting immunity etc. seems to be the only way to protect ourselves from this virus.

It is very important for us to get a healthy lifestyle for improving our natural defense system (immunity system). As we know that “prevention is better than cure”. Therefore understanding of Yoga and Ayurveda can effectively help in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Yoga and Ayurveda

Combined understanding of Yoga and Ayurveda is important for us to achieve complete well being. Yoga and Ayurveda are two interrelated branches of the same great tree of Vedic knowledge. Yoga practices like Asana, Pranayama, Mediation and understanding of yogic diet can effectively improve immune system and as well help in maintaining healthy lifestyle.

In the Ayurveda (science of life) kadha (s) are recommended to boost the immunity easily. Kadhas are basically drinks that are prepared with certain herbs and spices which can be made at home. These homemade drinks are effective and easy to make as well recommended by several traditional medical practitioners too.

There are many ways to prepare kadha(s) for various benefits. So, here is one easy to prepare but effective recipe of kadha that might help fight against infection like COVID-19.

Tulsi ka kadha/drink

Tulsi (basil) is one of the oldest herbs known to mankind, tulsi’s healing and healthful properties have been the most treasured knowledge across the world. From the leaves to the seed, holy basil is considered a tonic for the body, mind, and spirit. Because of its property of fighting against infections, virus and cold and flu it is the best option for kadha.

This homemade tulsi kadha can be taken 1-2 times a day and has been recommended by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare as well.

Ingredients:

5-6 Tulsi leaves, a small piece Shunthi (Ginger), 3-4 munakka (Raisins), ¼ teaspoon Kalimirch (Black pepper powder, ½ teaspoon Dalchini (Cinnamon powder).  Add jaggery (natural sugar) and / or fresh lemon juice to your taste, if needed.

How to prepare:

  • Add 2-3 glasses of water in a pan
  • Add tulsi, ginger, black pepper powder, cinnamon powder and raisin
  • Stir this mixture and let it boil for around 12 -15 mins
  • Let it cool down for a while and then strain it using a strainer
