Health is a state of complete well being which includes physical, mental, sexual, emotional, social, intellectual and spiritual health. Health influences all the aspect of life and all these aspects have influence on each other. Better health is central to human happiness, productivity and well-being.

This article is going to be about defining what sexual health is, why it matters and what are influencing factors.

What is sexual health?

Sexual health generally refers to proper functioning of sexual function and reproduction. But as well physical, mental, and emotional factors can impact person’s sexual health.

World health organization defines sexual health as “a state of physical, emotional, mental and social well-being in relation to sexuality; it is not merely the absence of disease, dysfunction or infirmity”

Sexual health requires a positive and respectful approach to sexuality and sexual relationships, as well as the possibility of having pleasurable and safe sexual experiences, free of coercion, discrimination and violence. For sexual health to be attained and maintained, the sexual rights of all persons must be respected, protected and fulfilled.

Why you need to know it?

Sexuality is one of the important aspects of life; it affects and is affected by other aspect of health. In spite of being important part of health, this has not been much disused. Surely our perspective and understanding of sexuality is influenced by culture, sub- culture, tradition and education.

To be sexually healthy, it is very important be well informed, aware and respectful to yourself and others. When you are well informed, you can prevent many diseases, infection transmissions and unwanted pregnancy.

Sexual health allows embracing and enjoying yourself sexually in a way you are comfortable with our nature sexuality.
